Graphic Design II

Art Movement Poster

Week I

To me, the creative process is always an interesting and enjoyable experience. For this assignment, I was able to deepen my knowledge in Futurism that sparked a lot of inspiration, as this was a moment in art history with which I was not very familiar.

This project allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and depict a cityscape; it allowed me to work with tools I had never tried, such as transforming a text into a shape, or using a grid to distort the letters. The project also reinforced how expressive design elements can be, and how colour, line, and space, for instance, can clearly convey the feeling of an era.

Cultural Event Project

Week III

I gained valuable knowledge with this assignment. From a technical point of view, this was the first project for which I utilised all four Adobe programs I have been learning at CCV: Fresco and Illustrator for the artwork, Photoshop to manipulate/edit the images, and InDesign to bring it all together. From a personal point of view, I truly experienced the concept of the creative journey; these final pieces are far from what my original idea was, but I am pleased with the outcome.

Book Jacket

Week V

I learned so much from this project, not only how to use more efficiently and confidently Adobe Illustrator (an app that always intimated me), but also how to think in printing terms. Although I had some ups-and-downs (having had to print it twice, as the first layout came out wrong!) I did enjoy the process of creating my first book jacket; I look forward to the opportunity again.

Responsive Logo

Week VIII

I made this logo for one of the farmer’s markets in my area; it was a fun undertaking, but quite the endeavours project! From the first part of sketching to the final days of designing, I was continuously adding, subtracting, adjusting, and rearranging the logo. I faced challenges like deciding text placement for best legibility, and how to adapt the symbol for different uses.

Package Design

Week XIII

This project was satisfying, as I had a clear idea for the design I wanted to communicate; however, executing the packaging resulted in a bit of frustration. I encountered a few challenges, the curved template being the major one. Nevertheless, the experience taught me how to compromise, and when to let go and consider a project completed.
